What are physicals?

Physicals are health exams that screen for medical concerns and assess your overall health and well-being. The NewMed Immediate Care team completes physicals for babies, children, teenagers, and adults to ensure they’re healthy or to detect minor issues before they become serious. The primary care experts are highly skilled, professional, and compassionate.

Which types of physicals are available?

NewMed Immediate Care offers the following types of physicals:

  • Annual physicals
  • Work physicals
  • Pre-employment physicals
  • School physicals
  • Sports physicals
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals

They’re trained to complete all types of physicals, offering peace of mind about your health or fulfilling the requirements of an employer, school, or sports team. Annual physicals and routine health screenings are highly encouraged to optimize well-being.

What should I expect during physicals?

Physical exams at NewMed Immediate Care begin with a weigh-in and assessment of your pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs. Your provider discusses your medical history, lifestyle, medications, past diagnoses, and symptoms you may have.

They complete a physical exam by evaluating your heartbeat, breathing, eyes, throat, reflexes, and more to screen for signs of injuries, illnesses, or diseases. You might need vision or hearing screenings, drug tests, or other diagnostic tests.

The NewMed Immediate Care experts may suggest on-site lab testing or imaging procedures if you’re at risk of a medical concern or have symptoms of one. Your provider also addresses questions or concerns you might have about your health. They provide any required vaccinations for work or school.

What happens if I have a medical problem?

If you have a medical condition requiring treatment, your specialist reviews options with you. NewMed Immediate Care offers injury and wound care, medication prescriptions, and other treatments for illnesses and chronic diseases. If you need care from a specialist, they provide referrals.

Treating a medical problem may allow you to pass a work, school, or sports physical. Upon completion, your provider fills out any required physical exam paperwork and gives you a copy for your records.

You might need a physical every year for school, sports, camp, or work — or every two years in the case of a DOT physical.

Schedule your next physical at NewMed Immediate Care by calling the office, using the online booking feature, or walking in today.
